UHIP, or University Health Insurance Plan, is a health coverage plan for international students in Canada. It’s provided by Sun Life Insurance. You get this insurance automatically when you’re enrolled in university courses that align with your student visa conditions. If you’re not enrolled, you won’t have UHIP coverage.

With UHIP, your SanoMed consultation is fully covered, and you don’t need to make any out-of-pocket payments. Most clinics are not UHIP registered, which means you would have to pay out of pocket and then seek reimbursement from UHIP. However, because SanoMed is a registered UHIP-covered provider, you won’t have to pay anything out of pocket, and we will handle all the necessary paperwork for you.

So, who can get UHIP? To be eligible for UHIP coverage, you must be:

  1. An international student: UHIP is mainly for students from other countries studying in Canada.
  2. Enrolled in Courses: You must be enrolled in university courses that meet the conditions of your student visa. If you’re not enrolled, you won’t have UHIP coverage.
  3. Visa Status: You must have a valid student visa for the duration of your studies.

That’s it! If you meet these conditions, you’ll automatically get UHIP coverage. Easy, right?

You will be automatically covered by UHIP when you enroll in courses meeting your visa conditions. To re-ensure:

  1. Check University Portal: Log in to your university’s student portal. There, you’ll find a section for health coverage or UHIP. Follow the prompts to confirm your details.
  2. Pay Fees: Usually, UHIP fees are added to your university tuition. Make sure to pay it along with your other fees to activate the coverage.
  3. Get Your UHIP Card: After confirming and paying, you’ll receive a UHIP card. You can usually download this from your student portal or get a physical copy from your school.
  4. Show the Card: Always have your UHIP card handy when visiting any healthcare provider.
